Barak-DeborahDeborah and Israel were being attacked by King Jabin, the king of Canaan. Sisera was commanding the army of King Jabin which was at this moment attacking Israel. One day Deborah, the fourth Judge or leader of Israel, had a message from the Lord for Barak, her military general, to take ten thousand men from tribes of Naphtali and Zebulun to go and attack Sisera. His reply was only if you go with me. To which Deborah replied today Sisera will be killed by a woman. If you had gone up with out me you would have had the glory of killing Sisera. Deborah had a message from the Lord for Barak, her military general, to take ten thousand men from tribes of Naphtali and Zebulun. To fight a war against Jabin, the king of Canaan. Barak was from the tribe of Naphtali and was the son of Abinoan, a Midianite. He was the 5th Judge of Israel, alongside Deborah, from 1237BC-1198BC. Barak in Hebrew means: lighting. Again when the people of Israel listened and obeyed God they were not under oppression of on of their enemies but when they moved away from God again God allowed the enemies of Israel to prevail. Barak is mentioned Hebrews 11:32 the famous faith chapter of the Bible. Deborah the 4th Judge of Israel asked Barak the son of Abinoam to help her by going out and kill Sisera, the commander of King Jabin’s army. King Jabin of Canaan who reigned from Hazor was an enemy of Israel. Deborah asked Barak to lead ten thousand fighting men from two tribes of Israel – Naphtali and Zebulun. Then the land of Israel had peace for forty years. Yet again Israelites did evil in the eyes of God so then we have the what happened in the life of Gideon the next Judge of Israel. |

Background readingBarak-DeborahBarak said to her, “If you will go with me, I will go; but if you will not go with me, I will not go.” And she said, “I will surely go with you; nevertheless, the road on which you are going will not lead to your glory, for the LORD will sell Sis’era into the hand of a woman.” Then Deb’orah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh. |
