Genesis 21:14 – בְּרֵאשִׁית כא, יד

Sarah Abraham’s wife had her husband send Hagar her servant away after Hagar had produced a son called Ishmael for Abraham. This happened after Sarah found she was pregnant.
Ishmael was Abraham’s son by Hagar, who bore him as a surrogate mother for Abraham’s wife, Sarah. This was often the custom in the Mediterranean countries at that time.
Sarah knew her son was to be the son of promise as given to them both by the angel of the Lord.
After Sarah and Abraham had a child Isaac as God told them they would. Sarah then asked Abraham to get rid of Hagar and her child Ishmael. So we have the event of Hagar and Ishmael in the desert and God meeting with them.
Ishmael became the father of the Arabs and other tribes while Isaac became the father of the twelve tribes of Israel. 		שרה אשת אברהם דרשה מבעלה לשלח את הגר שיפחתה למדבר לאחר שזו ילדה לאברהם את ישמעאל. זה קרה לאחר ששרה גילתה שהיא בהריון.
ישמעאל היה בנו של אברהם על ידי הגר, שילדה לו כאם פונדקאית לאשתו של אברהם, שרה. זה היה נהוג לעתים קרובות במדינות הים התיכון באותה העת.
שרה ידעה שבנה הוא בן ההבטחה כפי שנמסר לשניהם על ידי מלאך האלוהים.
אחרי שלשרה ואברהם נולד יצחק, כפי שאלוהים הבטיח להם, שרה בקשה מאברהם להיפטר מהגר ובנה ישמעאל.
כך יש לנו המקרה של הגר וישמעאל במדבר והמפגש של האל איתם.
ישמעאל היה לאב לשבטים הערבים ושבטים אחרים ויעקב היה לאב לשנים עשרי שבטי ישראל.
