The Roman Centurion

Luke 23:47-49. 14th Nisan about 3pm. The Roman Centurion watched Jesus die, as a representative of the Roman Empire. There were many other people watching, including some of Jesus’ followers. We know John was there because Jesus spoke to him, asking him to look after Mary His mother.

47 When the centurion saw what had taken place, he praised God and said, “This man certainly was righteous!” 48 When all the crowds who had come together for this spectacle saw what had taken place, they beat their chests and left. 49 But all his acquaintances, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, were standing at a distance watching these things.
