The open empty tomb or the Resurrection

Luke 24:1-8. 18th Nisan. The tomb with the stone door rolled back. Jesus’ body is no longer inside.

The stone that closed the tomb rolled in a channel that sloped, so it was easy to roll the stone so the tomb could be closed, but hard to roll the stone uphill to open the tomb again.

You either agree with the Bible narratives that Jesus rose from the dead or you do not. By reading other parts of this website you will understand what research the authors of this website have done and why they understand this to be correct, that Jesus rose from the dead.

These women who had followed Jesus from Galilee were the first to hear the wonderful news that Jesus had risen from the dead and was alive again. Were there more women than Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James? We are not sure how many women were present but these three are named.

24:1 But at early dawn on the first day of the week, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they went in, they didn’t find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were puzzling over this, two men in dazzling robes suddenly stood beside them. 5 While the women remained terrified, bowing their faces to the ground, the men asked them, “Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is living? 6 He is not here, but has been raised. Remember what he told you while he was still in Galilee: 7 ‘The Son of Man must be handed over to sinful men, be crucified, and rise on the third day.’”

8 Then the women remembered Jesus’ words.

More Information:

The dead were placed in a cave cut out of a rock. It had shelves to lay out the dead on them.
A big round rock was used as the door. If it needed to be opened it took a number of people to move it as it had to roll up an incline.
